Hourly Rate: $20.24-$24.99
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education – High School Diploma or the equivalency certificate.
- Possess current CDL and a Student Transportation Certification.
- Pass a regular physical, visual, and hearing examination.
- Must be alert, careful, and possess the ability to maintain emotional calm in periods of emergency.
- First Aid/CPR Certified.
- Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and extensive background check
JOB GOALS: This position is primarily for driving the bus at Gila Crossing Community School for all activities that involve the use of bus as scheduled. Other duties that may be performed are maintenance, janitorial and kitchen assistance to complete the 8 hours.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of how to handle minor emergency situations as they relate to vehicle and building.
- Must possess the knowledge needed to check a vehicle for safely transporting students, staff and parents of the school community.
- Ability to prepare required reports for both vehicle operation and maintenance duties.
- Ability to maintain effective relationships with people varied economic, education and cultural backgrounds.
- Must have some knowledge of custodial/facilities maintenance practices and tools. Possess skills related to Custodial building and facilities maintenance.
POSITION RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Responsible for transporting students to and from school or other functions as designated by the school.
- Operate the bus or other transportation vehicles used for transporting students or staff in safe operating manner.
- Supervise children during field trips as needed.
- Safely load and unload all passengers and assure they are all seated when vehicle is in motion.
- Maintain student discipline when vehicle is in motion to minimize driver distractions.
- Prepare all appropriate safety reports, mileage Jogs, maintenance logs etc. as needed and directed by supervisor.
- Keep vehicle clean and in safe operating condition at all times.
- As custodial maintenance, person is responsible for assuring that all building areas assigned are free from debris and are clean and orderly.
- Monitor restrooms for cleanliness, replaces paper and soap products as needed.
- Empties trash cans in building and on grounds as needed. Removes debris and picks up litter etc. from school grounds. May be asked to do minor grounds keeping assignments like watering and maintaining lawns, garden and trees.
- Performs a variety of routine manual duties as required, such as moving supplies, furniture, equipment and assembling furniture.
- May perform other related duties as assigned.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD:
Newly appointed employee will be subject to an initial ninety (90) calendar day probation period.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Position requires good physical condition with ability to lift and move objects weighing 40 pounds an occasionally 40 to 80 pounds continuous standing, walking or stooping. Work is generally outdoors driving bus, some indoor custodial maintenance for extended periods under all weather conditions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This job operates in a School environment. Driving through heavy traffic or bad weather and dealing with unruly passengers can be stressful for bus drivers. Work is generally outdoors driving bus, some indoor custodial maintenance.
